Greens Propose New Law to Tackle Hate Crime
Patrick Harvie MSP has lodged a bill proposal in the Scottish Parliament to strengthen the law to tackle hate crimes against people based on their disability or sexual orientation. The move will introduce 'statutory aggravation' power to ensure that abuse and violence towards these groups is treated the same as religious bigotry and racism, and providing courts with clear and consistent sentencing powers.

Greens and Other Opposition Councillors United to Stop Labour 'Pawning Our Land'
Opposition councillors have made a united call for Glasgow City Council's surplus property portfolio to be protected from being sold to luxury home developers.The cross-party group, led by Bailie Nina Baker of the Greens, has called-in an Executive Committee decision to set up a joint venture partnership to sell off surplus land and buildings, including 35 schools and 6 listed buildings, including the huge Tontine Building on Trongate. She will be joined by her Green colleague Danny Alderslowe, SNP councillors Grant Thoms and George Roberts and LibDem councillor Kenneth Elder when they put searching questions to officials and members at the special meeting of the Development and Regeneration PDS Committee on Wednesday 30th January.
